• Enchanted Rock State Natural Area – The Rock is a huge, pink granite exfoliation dome that rises 425 feet above ground, 1825 feet above sea level, and covers 640 acres. Visitors can enjoy primitive backpacking, camping, hiking, technical and rock climbing, picnicking, geological study, bird watching, and star gazing. Open Daily. The park reaches capacity (in terms of parking) and frequently closes early on weekends (sometimes as early as 11 a.m.) Reopening usually occurs at 5 p.m.
  • Pedernales Falls State Park – Pedernales Falls State Park, 5211.7 acres, in Blanco County east of Johnson City. Activities include camping; picnicking; hiking; river swimming; tubing; wading; mountain biking; fishing; bird watching. Open daily.
  • Lost Maples State Natural Area – Lost Maples State Natural Area covers 2174.2 scenic acres in Bandera and Real Counties, north of Vanderpool on the Sabinal River. Visitors enjoy picnicking, camping, backpacking, sightseeing, hiking, photography, bird watching, fishing, swimming, and nature study. Open daily.
